Liverpool's Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones return ahead of Tottenham cup clash

Liverpool's Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones return ahead of Tottenham cup clash

The duo have both struggled with injuries but were fit enough for the bench against Bournemouth, with Jones playing 30 minutes. Manager Arne Slot is hopeful Jota can also feature.

Their return comes at a crucial time, with Liverpool needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in London.

Lucas Bergvall scored the only goal in that match, though he was fortunate to avoid a red card before finding the net. Liverpool were also down to 10 men temporarily as Kostas Tsimikas received treatment.

Jota and Jones had both suffered frustrating setbacks recently. Jota scored an equaliser against Nottingham Forest on his return, only to get injured again shortly after.

Jones assisted in Liverpool's Champions League win over Lille but was forced off minutes later.

Despite January's injury challenges, Slot now has an almost fully fit squad as Liverpool push to retain the Carabao Cup.

To progress, they must beat Tottenham by two clear goals, and the return of key players could provide the spark they need.

"We didn't have many injuries, not long-term injuries, in the moment the window was open," said Slot regarding the quiet January window.

"At the moment there is not a reason to add something to the team unless you have a chance in the market.

"That's something we saw last time with the goalkeeper we brought in (Giorgi Mamardashvili) as we saw there was a chance in the market. For now, we are happy with the team we have."
