Lucas Chevalier injury scare sparks PSG concern ahead of Rennes trip

The 23-year-old goalkeeper failed to train on Wednesday as he continued to struggle with a swollen ankle picked up during PSG's 1-0 defeat away to Monaco at the Louis II Stadium.

Chevalier completed the full ninety minutes despite being caught by a heavy challenge from Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara. However, fresh assessments made early this week have left PSG's staff concerned that their first-choice keeper may not recover in time for the Round 15 fixture.

RMC Sport have reported that the ankle remains significantly swollen, and PSG's medical department are monitoring him closely ahead of the weekend. The coaching staff are preparing contingency plans in case Chevalier is ruled out, although no final decision is expected until late on Friday.

Chevalier, who joined PSG from Lille in the summer and quickly established himself as the club's No.1, reflected on the incident and admitted he had been fortunate to finish the match.

"I know I am very lucky and that I can keep playing football every week," he said. "Sometimes there are dangerous moments that are best avoided."

The keeper has started all twenty of PSG's matches in all competitions this season and has recorded eight clean sheets, underlining his importance to a side who are still adjusting under their new defensive structure.

PSG are scheduled to travel to Rennes for the Saturday 6 kick-off, and Chevalier's potential absence would represent a significant setback as the champions look to maintain pressure at the top of the Ligue 1 table.
