Marc Guehi pursuit heats up as Liverpool accelerate transfer plans

Talks for the 24-year-old England star, whose contract nears its final year, have begun, signaling a potential Anfield switch.

The Reds have been active in the transfer market, securing seven new signings this summer, including goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who joined on Friday, alongside Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez.

This marks Liverpool's most ambitious spending window to date, yet Slot remains determined to add a centre-back and a striker to the squad.

According to Liverpool FC journalist David Lynch, Guehi has emerged as a prime target, with discussions already underway. "He's definitely a target, and there's a spot opening up," Lynch told Anfield Index.

"The challenge is convincing him about game time, especially after Jarell Quansah's limited minutes last season. But Liverpool like the player, and with Palace potentially open to a reasonable fee due to his contract situation, progress could happen quickly."

Crystal Palace have valued Guehi at around 70 million pounds, though sources suggest they might accept 40 to 50 million pounds given his contract's expiry in 2026.

Liverpool, aware of Guehi's desire to join, are preparing an initial offer of approximately 30 million pounds, testing Palace's resolve, according to Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail. Palace, anticipating Guehi's departure, have begun scouting replacements.

Lynch added, "It hinges on how Liverpool sell the move to him. He's not uninterested, and the need for homegrown talent makes this a key target. This could move fast."

No official statements have surfaced from Liverpool, Slot, or Guehi, but the buzz around Anfield suggests momentum is building.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's transfer activity shows no signs of slowing. A potential move for Andy Robertson to Atletico Madrid has collapsed after the Spanish side opted for a 17-million-pound alternative, ensuring the 31-year-old Scot remains at Anfield, per Fabrizio Romano.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Alexander Isak remains Liverpool's top striker target, with a clearer timeline for a potential bid expected soon.

However, a Bundesliga star linked with Liverpool has expressed a preference for Real Madrid, though Xabi Alonso's side have been advised against the signing.

With Guehi negotiations gaining traction, Liverpool's aggressive transfer strategy underscores their intent to maintain their Premier League dominance. Fans await further developments as Slot shapes his squad for another title charge.
