Micky van de Ven commits future to Tottenham with new five-year deal

The Netherlands international had been contracted to Spurs until 2029, but his future had reportedly been under consideration before Roberto De Zerbi's appointment in March. The Italian's arrival ultimately played a key role in persuading Van de Ven to stay.

Van de Ven, 25, said Tottenham's plans for the future convinced him to extend his stay.

"It's a special moment to sign a new deal and a proud moment for me and my family," he told club media.

"I've always loved Spurs, from the first day I stepped in here. I love the club, I love the fans and I've developed really well here.

"It's clear the direction the club wants to go in and I want to be a part of it. I'm excited about what's to come."

De Zerbi was equally enthusiastic about retaining the defender, describing him as "one of the best centre-backs in Europe" and an important part of Tottenham's plans.

"He has the qualities, mentality and ambition that we want at Tottenham Hotspur, and I am very happy that he has decided to continue his journey with the club," De Zerbi said.

"We are building something strong here, and players like Micky are an important part of that future. His decision to sign a new contract shows his belief in what we are creating together."

Van de Ven joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg in August 2023 and has established himself as a key member of the defence. He has made 96 appearances in all competitions and earned 24 Netherlands caps.

Van de Ven is now expected to remain central to De Zerbi's plans, particularly with club captain and defensive partner Romero potentially leaving this transfer window amid reported interest from Atletico Madrid.
