Miguel Cardoso: I will not allow anyone to celebrate

The Brazilians technically need four points from their remaining three league games to secure top spot ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, who are 12 points adrift with two games in hand.

They most recently saw off Chippa United comfortably 3-0, with goals from Iqraam Rayners (29'), Jayden Adams (40') and Thapelo Maseko (81').

Cardoso's side next face CAF-chasing Stellenbosch - who are one point adrift of Sekhukhune United in third place - before taking on Chippa again, and seeing out their campaign at home to Magesi.

Pirates, meanwhile, are next in action in the Nedbank Cup final against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, before their final games of the season against Golden Arrows, TS Galaxy, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and Magesi.

Speaking ahead of their next test, Cardoso explained his team cannot take any game for granted.

He said in the Sowetan: "We have a match against Stellenbosch – a difficult team to play against, then we have to play Chippa again and we just heard that the match would not be played at a big stadium [Nelson Mandela Bay] but elsewhere.

"Then we play Magesi at home and it will depend on us. We know our opponents [Pirates] will play matches until the end of the month and it allows them to play games after we finish ours and I don't think it should happen like that. Every team should finish at the same time.

"But we need to focus on the next match, like the previous ones, fight to win and collect the three points because we know our opponent won't play at the weekend because they will be participating in the Nedbank Cup final.

"And then we have to play again on Wednesday and we will try our best to collect as many points until mathematically it is done and then we will think about celebrating. Until then, I will not allow everyone to celebrate.

"We just celebrated today's victory, nothing more, then we go for the next one."
