Newcastle sweep aside Benfica in commanding Champions League display

His first goal, coming just eight minutes after coming on, was set in motion by an unlikely assist - a massive 65-yard throw from Pope that caught Benfica's defense off guard. Antonio Silva failed to deal with the bounce, and Barnes charged through before driving a low shot in off the far post.

Thirteen minutes later, he struck again. This time it was Gordon turning provider, threading a pass through a tiring Benfica backline. Barnes slid the ball calmly under goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin to make it 3-0 and wrap up a famous win.
