Nicolas Jackson keen on Chelsea return ahead of Xabi Alonso era at Blues

The Senegal striker spent last season on loan with Bayern Munich after slipping out of favour under former boss Enzo Maresca. He scored 11 goals in 34 matches, but Bayern opted against signing him permanently.

Jackson's stance is now clear. He is willing to return to Stamford Bridge, but only if he is first choice. According to reports, his position remains unchanged after previously rejecting a role as backup striker behind Liam Delap.

The 24-year-old, signed from Villarreal CF in 2023, has scored 30 goals in 81 appearances for Chelsea and still has several years left on his contract.

Crucially, Jackson has also made his intentions public on Instagram, writing: "At the end of this season, I want to return to Chelsea as I'm still on contract there and I'll do everything possible to reclaim my position as the main striker for the team. There's plenty of competition up front, but I'm motivated by that."

Former England international Paul Merson has urged Chelsea to reintegrate him, saying on Sky Sports: "I would get Nicolas Jackson back, I would rip Jackson back."

Merson also questioned Chelsea's attacking balance, adding: "Liam Delap is out of his depth and Joao Pedro wants to come this way towards the midfield, it closes everything down, he's more of a number ten really."

He continued by highlighting the importance of partnerships in the squad: "Palmer made Jackson and Jackson made Palmer."

The pundit believes Chelsea need experience and structure to improve, suggesting tactical changes could help the squad. He said: "A back-three would suit Chelsea, they could be a good team but they need some experience."

New boss Alonso will officially take charge on July 1, with Chelsea expected to reshape their squad as the Spaniard begins a new era at Stamford Bridge.
