Pirates confirmed this week that the 28-year-old defender will lead the team going into the 2025/26 season, following the retirement of former skipper Innocent Maela. The leadership change comes as new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou looks to usher in a new era at the Soweto giants.
Speaking at the launch of the MTN8 Cup on Wednesday, Sibisi shared his pride and gratitude for being entrusted with the role.
"As a young boy, I grew up supporting Orlando Pirates, and in my wildest dreams, I never imagined I would one day play for the club - let alone become its captain," said the KwaZulu-Natal-born player.
"It's a massive honour and a privilege to lead such a historic institution."
Sibisi joined Pirates in 2022 from Golden Arrows and has since become a consistent performer in the heart of the defence. He will be supported in his leadership duties by vice-captains Tapelo Xoki and Mbekezile Mbokazi.
The Buccaneers will kick-off their 2025/26 campaign on Saturday afternoon when they take on Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium in the MTN8 quarter-finals. The fixture also marks the start of their Wafa Wafa title defence, having won the competition for the third time in a row last campaign.
With Sibisi now steering the ship, Pirates fans will be hoping his leadership can guide the club to further success both domestically and on the continent.
