Nottingham Forest stun Man City to claim first home Premier League win

Forest took control before the interval after exploiting two costly mistakes from the visitors. Jair Cunha broke the deadlock after dispossessing Josko Gvardiol, whose loose touch and inability to withstand the challenge allowed the Forest forward to advance towards the penalty area and guide a low effort into the bottom corner.

The hosts doubled their advantage through Delap, who was released by Xaver Schlager after the midfielder won a 50/50 battle against Elliot Anderson.

With City's defence offering little resistance, Delap surged forward from halfway before unleashing a powerful strike beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Erling Haaland had earlier seen an attempt from a narrow angle cleared off the line, while Enzo Fernandez squandered a headed chance.

Manchester City responded shortly after the restart when Rayan Cherki connected brilliantly with a clearance, sending a spectacular half-volley into the net.

The goal sparked a sustained spell of pressure from Pep Guardiola's side, who enjoyed considerable possession but struggled to break down Forest's defence.

The hosts remained threatening on the break, however, and Delap eventually settled the contest with a magnificent curling finish into the top corner following a swift counter-attack.

The defeat leaves City second, six points behind Arsenal, who defeated Hull City 1-0 earlier in the day. Forest climbed to 16th, moving two points clear of the relegation zone and sending Manchester United into the bottom three for the first time at this stage of a Premier League campaign.
