Orlando Pirates down Golden Arrows to move back to second spot

The Buccaneers managed to retain an eight-match unbeaten streak in the league following a brace from super sub striker Yanela Mbuthuma in the second half.

The two team both started brightly with some end-to-end action before Bucs' left-back Nkosikhona Ndaba forced an own goal from for the opener in the 23rd minute.

The visitors continued to probe forcing goalkeeper Sipho Chaine to make a save just before half-time to keep the Soweto giants leading.

After a cautious opening 20 minutes of the second half, both coaches made changes to their sides as they tried to keep the teams fresh in a hard running encounter.

Arrows then equalized through striker Thokozani Khumalo after good work and an assist from Angelo Van Rooi in the 72nd minute.

Following some substitutions from both sides AmaBhakaniya went ahead again shortly afterwards when Yanela Mbuthuma put the home side back in front in the 74th minute of the match.

The Buccaneers continued to pile on the pressure until Mbuthuma secured his brace in the 87th minute to move his team back into second spot on the league table.

Orlando Pirates will take on Richards Bay this Saturday in their 2025/26 Carling Knockout Cup semi-final this weekend before heading to the FIFA international break.
