Orlando Pirates respond to R20 million fraud allegations involving former finance manager

The legal action follows an internal forensic investigation into the club's finances. Court papers allege that about R43.1 million was transferred from Pirates accounts into accounts allegedly controlled by Joselowsky between 2016 and 2026, with R20.2 million specifically identified as alleged fraudulent diversions.

The investigation reportedly began in July after a routine review uncovered an irregular inter-company payment. A subsequent forensic examination identified 742 suspicious transactions, with payment descriptions allegedly disguising transfers as legitimate expenses such as rent and supplier costs.

Joselowsky had worked for Pirates for more than 30 years and, according to an affidavit by club commercial manager Mpumelelo Khoza, held responsibility for the club's bank accounts, payroll, supplier payments and financial ledgers.

Pirates subsequently sought a freezing order, arguing that funds could be moved before they were secured. The club also raised concerns about Joselowsky's alleged Austrian citizenship and overseas travel.

However, Pirates have stressed that the court application does not constitute a finding of wrongdoing.

"The Club has asked the High Court to preserve funds linked to certain financial transactions while those transactions are investigated. This is a precautionary step to protect the Club's funds during the process," Pirates said.

"The application is not a finding of wrongdoing and should not be interpreted as one. The individual concerned is cooperating, and the Club is committed to a fair process for everyone involved."

The Buccaneers added that their day-to-day operations remain unaffected and said they would not comment further while the matter is before the court.

Pirates are seeking to preserve the R20.2 million, along with interest and legal costs, as the legal process continues.
