Phil Foden reacts after controversial Manchester derby red card

The City forward saw red during a quiet first half after appearing to kick out at Bruno Fernandes. The decision proved controversial, with former United midfielder Roy Keane and ex-City defender Micah Richards both arguing that Foden should not have been dismissed.

Foden responded to the victory on social media, making it clear that he was disappointed not to have played a bigger part in the result.

"Unbelievable performance from the lads. Gutted I didn't get to play my part properly. Proud to be Blue," Foden wrote.

Despite being down to 10 men, City held on to claim a 1-0 victory and Foden was later seen gesturing "1-0" towards United supporters as he left Old Trafford.

There was also a memorable derby debut for Elliot Anderson, who joined in the celebrations after being named Player of the Match by Gary Neville.

The midfielder joined City from Nottingham Forest in the summer for a reported 116 million pounds after previously being strongly linked with a move to United.

Anderson had described City as "the Kings of Manchester" after completing his move, and he quickly had the chance to underline that claim on his first derby appearance.

City will now switch their focus to the EFL Cup, with Norwich City visiting the Etihad Stadium in the third round on Thursday.
