Polokwane City coach explains Oscarine Masuluke arrival

Masuluke joined the Betway Premiership outfit after leaving Stellenbosch FC at the end of last season and has spent the past few weeks training with the Limpopo-based side.

The 33-year-old had been without a club after failing to secure a deal with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Real Native before eventually landing at Polokwane City.

Although Moloto initially denied reports that Masuluke was training with the club, the former Baroka FC goalkeeper made his official debut on Saturday when Polokwane City held Kaizer Chiefs to a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Moloto believes Masuluke's experience and leadership qualities can strengthen the team's goalkeeping department, while also providing healthy competition for Lindokuhle Mathebula.

Masuluke has made more than 100 appearances in the South African top flight, with most of those coming during his two spells at Baroka.

"He adds a good value, he'll help us a lot in terms of organising the defence," Moloto told the media.

"He is a player that is a leader and it's also something that we were looking at. It's also going to push Mathebula. So we want to add balance in terms of good competition in our team."

Meanwhile, Moloto was pleased with the point against Chiefs, particularly as it lifted Polokwane City back into the top eight.

The result leaves Rise and Shine seventh on the Betway Premiership standings with seven points from six matches as they look to build momentum in the early stages of the campaign.

"It's important in this League not to lose maximum points. If we can get two wins then it pushes us to a better position," said Moloto.

"So the one point gives us seven points and takes us to the top eight, of which is something that we are working on."
