Ronwen Williams: Sundowns eager to lift new CAF Champions League trophy
A brand-new CAF Champions League trophy was unveiled in Johannesburg on Thursday, just days before the highly anticipated final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC.
The Premier Soccer League has reportedly decided to play only the second half of February's suspended fixture between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows.
According to reports, the two relegation candidates will have to take to the field again for another 45 minutes after their last fixture being abandoned with the score level at 1-1 due to load shedding and failure to have back up power.
The Tshwane-based side had taken the lead early in the match courtesy of former Kaizer Chiefs winger Christian Saile, before midfielder Velemseni Ndwandwe's equalizer for the KwaZulu-Natal side.
Interestingly, Gavin Hunt was in the dugout for United in February's clash but now the interim coach Andre Arendse will lead the team in the second half following Hunt's sacking in March.
Meanwhile, Arrows also had Mabhuti Khenyeza as head coach in that clash, but he has since left to join Chippa United, with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi replacing him.
Both teams are currently battling to avoid the PSL relegation playoffs, with Matsatsantsa suffering a loss to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday evening, leaving them with the task of securing four points from their clashes against Richards Bay and Arrows to secure their status.
Meanwhile Abafana Bes'thende host Sekhukhune United in their clash this Saturday and only a victory will ensure top-flight survival unless 15th placed Cape Town City fail to win the Western Cape derby against Stellenbosch.
The date and time for the completion of the SuperSport United and Golden Arrows fixture is yet to be confirmed.
