Report: Chelsea launch bid to sign Barcelona's Fermin Lopez
Chelsea are pushing hard to secure Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez before the transfer window closes on September 1, aiming to bolster their attacking options with the young Spaniard.
The 29-year-old left-back, affectionately dubbed the "Greek Scouser" by Liverpool fans, has found himself third in the pecking order behind new signing Milos Kerkez and established star Andy Robertson.
The Reds have been active in the transfer market, bolstering their squad with key additions, including Kerkez from Bournemouth for 40 million pounds. This signing has pushed Tsimikas further down the depth chart, prompting discussions about his future.
"Kostas Tsimikas' exit is expected to accelerate as Liverpool could also open to potential initial loan proposals," transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on X. "The left-back is prepared to leave as Kerkez and Andy Robertson will be the left-backs for Arne Slot."
Roma have identified Tsimikas as a prime target to strengthen their left flank, particularly as a deputy for their current left-back, Angelino. "The Giallorossi are looking for a deputy for Angelino, and the new name on Massara's list is Liverpool's Konstantinos Tsimikas," Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported.
"There have been contacts with the Reds regarding the loan arrival of the Greek full-back." Roma's interest comes as they weigh their options, with their other left-back, Anass Salah-Eddine, linked with a loan move elsewhere in Serie A.
Tsimikas, who joined Liverpool from Olympiacos in 2020 for 12 million pounds, has made 115 appearances for the Reds, contributing two assists in 29 matches last season. Despite his popularity, his limited game time, evident in his absence from recent matchday squads against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, has fueled speculation about his departure.
"Tsimikas is expected to leave before the end of the window," The Athletic's James Pearce noted, adding that the player prefers a move to a club offering European football.
While Liverpool would prefer a permanent transfer, with Tsimikas' contract running until 2027, they are open to a loan deal to ensure he gets regular minutes. Roma's interest aligns with their need for a reliable option to complement Angelino, who started their Serie A opener against Bologna.
However, doubts linger about Angelino's fit in new coach Gian Piero Gasperini's high-energy system, making Tsimikas' potential arrival a strategic move.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are preparing a significant move for Newcastle's Alexander Isak, with reports indicating a bid of around 130 million pounds could be tabled after their upcoming clash at St. James' Park.
"Isak wants Liverpool, and Liverpool are prepared to pay, but Newcastle are the ones who decide," Romano said, highlighting the striker's desire to join the Reds.
For Tsimikas, a move to Roma could offer a fresh start, echoing the path of former Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise, who joined the Italian side in 2008. With the transfer window closing on September 1, the next few days will be crucial in determining whether Tsimikas will don the Giallorossi colours or remain on Merseyside.
