Report: Rivaldo Coetzee begins training with Sekhukhune United after Sundowns exit

The defender-cum-midfielder has been without a club after parting ways with Sundowns upon the expiry of his contract on 30 June.

Coetzee spent seven seasons in the colours of Sundowns after joining the club in the 2018/19 season from Ajax Cape Town, now known as Cape Town Spurs.

The 28-year-old had a successful stint with Masandawana after winning several league titles and the African Football League [AFL] in 2023.

In the past few years, Coetzee's career has been marred by persistent injuries; however, indications are that he has fully recovered from his setbacks and is ready to return to competitive football.

Coetzee is currently training with Sekhukhune United, looking to impress head coach Eric Tinkler and get a contract, according to FarPost .

Coetzee's experience of playing in the CAF Champions League and Bafana Bafana could be vital for Babina Noko should he put pen to paper.

"I can tell you that Rivaldo Coetzee is training with Sekhukhune United. He has made good progress after recovering from an injury. So he's ready to come back and showcase his talent that made him one of the most loved players in South African football," a source told the publication.

The Limpopo-based side has had a flying start to the 2025/26 season, as they sit top of the table in the Betway Premiership.

Sekhukhune have collected 13 points in the opening five matches of the campaign.

Since the league started, Sekhukhune has claimed four wins and played one draw.

They are part of the three teams that are yet to taste defeat this season alongside Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
