Report: Tottenham launch late bid for Kobbie Mainoo amid Man Utd loan drama

The 20-year-old England international has grown frustrated with his limited role at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim and has made it clear he wants a loan exit to secure regular playing time, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported: "Kobbie Mainoo makes clear to Man United that he wants to leave the club on loan this summer... Kobbie wants to play regular football, he doesn’t want to leave #MUFC on permanent deal."

Manchester United, however, are determined to retain Mainoo, insisting he fights for his spot in Amorim's squad and potentially earns a new contract. Sources told TeamTalk that United officials reiterated this stance on Thursday, even as Tottenham spotted an opening.

The Red Devils' reluctance was echoed in updates from Sky Sports, where it was noted Mainoo has informed the club of his desire to depart temporarily, but United will not sanction any move.

Tottenham are pushing hard, convinced Mainoo could thrive in Thomas Frank's system and kickstart his career. If United soften their position, Spurs are ready to lead the chase, with sources indicating they view him as an ideal fit for their midfield rebuild.

Mainoo, a product of United's academy, has racked up 73 appearances for the club, netting seven goals and providing three assists. Yet, he faces stiff competition from captain Bruno Fernandes in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 setup.

The youngster sat out United's first two Premier League games but featured for the full 90 minutes in their Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

While United prefer to keep him, interest has surged from clubs like Everton, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid, per ESPN reports.

Mainoo, who earned his 10th England cap since debuting in 2024, must now convince United to budge if he hopes to play elsewhere this season.
