Cape Town City sign experienced former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare
Cape Town City have snapped up Thabang Monare following his departure from Sekhukhune United.

After seeing their form drop off dramatically in the second round last season, Babina Noko opted to replace head coach Eric Tinkler with former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze ahead of the upcoming Betway Premiership season.
Kaze has since roped in Papi Zothwane and Paulos Masehe as his two assistants, leaving Andre Arendse, Marc van Heerden and Kyle Solomon out of a job.
This news comes following the departure of a number of playing personnel including Lesiba Nku, Lebogang Phiri, Ronaldo Maarman, Sphiwe Mahlangu, Samkele Sihlali, Bradley Grobler, Thabang Monare, Sikhosonke Langa, Katlego Mohamme, Ryan Baartman, Rivaldo Coetzee, Daniel Cardoso and Renaldo Leaner.
Sekhukhune were in third place for much of the 2025/26 top-flight campaign, but ultimately ended in fifth, behind league winners Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu.
“Sekhukhune United Football Club confirms the departure of the following members of the Club’s technical team ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season: Mr Andre Arendse, Mr Marc van Heerden, Mr Kyle Solomon,” read a statement.
"The Club extends its sincere appreciation to Andre, Marc and Kyle for their professionalism, dedication and valuable contribution during their time with Babina Noko.
“The Club wishes to thank them for their excellent service and commitment throughout their tenure.”
