CAF reveals plan to expand AFCON tournament to 28 nations
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced plans to expand the Africa Cup of Nations from 24 to 28 participants at the tournament.

The 2025 AFCON winners staged a lengthy protest at the end of their 1-0 win at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday after a penalty was awarded to hosts Morocco after a VAR review, shortly after having a goal disallowed at the other end.
Brahim Diaz ultimtely missed the injury-time spot-kick to send the tie into extra-time where Pape Gueye scored, with 94 minutes on the clock.
Thiaw faces a potential punishment for his actions, and admitted his mistake in a social media post, saying: "We experienced an exceptional tournament with magnificent organisation, which unfortunately ended in tragedy.
"It was never my intention to go against the principles of the game that I love so much.
"I simply tried to protect my players from injustice. What some will see as a violation of the rules is nothing more than an emotional reaction to the bias of the situation," he continued.
"After discussions, we decided to resume the match and go for the trophy for you (Senegalese supporters)."
"I apologise if I offended anyone, but football lovers will understand that emotion is an integral part of this sport," the coach added.
"My guys, these 28 warriors who gave sweat, blood, and soul for their nation.
“It's a pleasure to lead you because, beyond being legends, you are exceptional people!”
