Siphesihle Ndlovu identifies key ingredient Kaizer Chiefs need to sustain their progress

Ndlovu believes maintaining those standards will be crucial if Amakhosi are to continue their progress and remain in contention for silverware this season.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder was named Man of the Match after an impressive display in Chiefs' 1-1 draw with Sundowns at FNB Stadium last Saturday.

Ndlovu played a key role in Chiefs' opening goal, using his strength to hold off his markers before setting up youngster Langelihle Phili, who scored his first senior goal for the club.

However, Chiefs were denied all three points when Cassius Mailula bravely headed home Sundowns' equaliser, taking a blow from goalkeeper Brandon Petersen in the process.

Despite the result, Ndlovu was pleased with Chiefs' performance against one of the league's leading sides. However, he warned that the team cannot afford to show less commitment against opponents they may be expected to beat.

"I think it is easy to put in a good performance against our big rivals because we understand the type of opponents we are facing and the type of game they play," Ndlovu said.

"It is when we play other teams who are extra motivated to play against us that we have to give them the same focus as when we play the top teams.

"It is up to us as players to ensure we perform to the best of our abilities with total commitment."

The draw saw Chiefs drop from the top of the Betway Premiership standings, with Orlando Pirates taking first place on goal difference following their 3-0 victory over Chippa United.

As Chiefs prepare for their trip to Richards Bay, Ndlovu also praised the Amakhosi faithful for their unwavering support.

"Hearing them singing in the stands really motivates us to achieve success, and we need them more than ever," he said.
