Stormers sign exciting young hooker Vernon Paulo from the Cheetahs

Paulo first caught the eye as part of the North-West University Eagles side that won the Varsity Cup in 2023.

He is known for accurate lineout throwing and his ability to break the gain line and burst through gaps in the tight areas.

The move was first rumoured back in October last year but it has now been confirmed that Paulo will be joining the Cape side and will be competing for game time along with Andre-Hugo Venter, JJ Kotze and Lukhanyo Vokozela.

Scarra Ntabeni is also still on the Stormers books but it is unknown how much he will be involved with the team beyond the end of this season.

The Stormers were keen to add extra depth at hooker after Joseph Dweba left the side to join the Exeter Chiefs.

Paulo made a big impression for the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup last season and is expected to push for a place in the side from day one.

The Cheetahs also announced tighthead prop Cameron Dawson would be leaving the side to join the Sharks, while confirming contract extensions for hooker Marco Janse van Rensburg, flank Sisonke Vumazonke and loosehead prop Matome Manyama.
