Sunderland make statement with capture of PSG's Nordi Mukiele
Sunderland's return to the Premier League is gathering serious momentum - and their latest move proves they mean business.
The move comes shortly after the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season, with the Black Cats strengthening their defensive options as they look to make an impact in the top flight.
"It's a new challenge and I'm happy to be here. I saw the atmosphere of the stadium, and this is something I really like.
"The fans are very important in football, and especially in Sunderland. I came here to fight for them.
"I see some good players and see their quality, so I believe that we can do something good together - and when I say together, I mean the players, the fans and the city. We will need everyone this season."
Mukiele, 27, arrives from Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee, bringing with him a wealth of experience from across Europe.
He spent last season on loan in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, where he gained further Bundesliga experience following an earlier spell at RB Leipzig.
Across his career, Mukiele has made more than 300 senior appearances, including 115 in the Bundesliga, 85 in Ligue 1, and 35 in the UEFA Champions League.
His career began at Stade Lavallois before moving to Montpellier HSC, where his performances caught the attention of RB Leipzig.
After establishing himself in the German top flight, the versatile defender made the switch to Paris Saint-Germain in 2022.
Capped by France at international level, Mukiele is known for his adaptability, capable of playing both as a right-back and in central defence.
