Tashreeq Matthews comfortable playing 'anywhere' in Sundowns attack

The 24-year-old attacker has enjoyed a strong campaign since joining the club last season, contributing 8 goals and 6 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Matthews has largely featured as an attacking midfielder, though his exact role remains fluid. Former coach Rulani Mokwena once admitted he was unsure of Matthews' best position, a sentiment the player himself embraces.

With natural strikers like Peter Shalulile, Iqraam Rayners, and Arthur Sales in the squad - and Lucas Ribeiro typically operating as a number 10 or false striker - Matthews offers Cardoso a dynamic option capable of linking midfield to the front line or taking on goal-scoring duties himself.

His ability to adapt and influence the game from different attacking positions could be crucial as Sundowns aim to gain a first-leg advantage against the Egyptian side.

"Growing up as a youngster, I played many different positions. So, I am comfortable to play anywhere in the attack and going forward," said Matthews.

On the upcoming final, he added: "We haven't been in a final for a few years but we are here now. I think we deserve it and we have to do whatever it takes to win it at home before we start thinking about the second leg.

"It is important to take this match as a final and not underestimate them. We must do what we have to do to go over the line. This is the trophy the club has been speaking about and wanting to win so we can get the second star."
