Thomas Tuchel backs Marc Guehi to shine despite Liverpool transfer collapse

Guehi, 25, had completed part of his medical for a thirty-five million pounds switch to Anfield before Palace pulled the plug.

Glasner convinced chairman Steve Parish that selling his skipper so late would seriously damage the squad, even though Guehi's contract runs out next summer. Parish had been prepared to cash in, but Glasner, whose own deal also expires in 2025, refused to budge.

Reports later claimed Guehi was furious with the U-turn, even considering handing over the captain's armband after a heated exchange with Parish.

But Tuchel, who called the centre-back into his latest England squad, praised how he has dealt with the setback. "We had a chat with him and he looks absolutely fine," said Tuchel. "He is the main driver of Crystal Palace's success. He continued exactly like this in camp, so it was very impressive.

"He handles it with respect and with grace, and with a brilliant attitude."

Palace fans will be hoping their leader maintains that focus when he returns from international duty, with European football set to stretch the squad's depth.

For Liverpool, missing out on Guehi leaves Arne Slot short of defensive options after Jarell Quansah was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen. Joe Gomez ultimately stayed, while Giovanni Leoni arrived from Parma to add cover.

Liverpool are expected to revisit the deal in January, though Barcelona and Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation. Palace may have held firm this time, but Guehi's future is likely to dominate headlines again before long.
