Tuchel drops Palmer, Foden and Mainoo as two earn first England call-ups

The England manager has named a 25-man squad for the upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain, with Ben White and Djed Spence also returning to the group.

Palmer has endured a difficult period with injuries and was previously overlooked for England's World Cup squad. The Chelsea midfielder also withdrew from the September and October international camps because of fitness concerns.

Tuchel questioned Palmer's commitment to England during the previous international break, saying he needed to take more of the opportunities available to him when representing his country.

Manchester United midfielder Mainoo is another notable absentee after missing the previous camp through injury. He was selected for the World Cup but did not feature during the tournament.

Foden has also been overlooked, having missed out on the World Cup squad and subsequent England selections.

Their absences have opened the door for two promising youngsters. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Jude, and Fulham's King have both been rewarded for their progress at club and youth international level.

Arsenal defender White and Inter Milan's Spence are also back in contention, while Bukayo Saka, Adam Scott and Marcus Rashford are unavailable through injury.

England face Croatia on Thursday, November 12, before travelling to Spain for their second fixture on Sunday, November 15.
