Felix Nmecha brace sees Borussia Dortmund defeat FC Copenhagen 4-2
Borussia Dortmund overcame a sluggish start to earn a hard-fought 4-2 victory over FP Copenhagen at Parken Stadium on Tuesday night.
Recent derby history
Bayern Munich have failed to beat Borussia Dortmund in the last three Bundesliga fixtures between them, with the last match producing four second half goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany and Dortmund's Niko Kovac have only faced each other twice after joining the respective teams last season, with both matches ending in draws.
Interestingly none of the last 26 derbies have ended goalless since the 2015/16 season.
Current 2025/26 Form
The Bavarians are currently enjoying a ten-match winning streak in all competitions and have scored the most goals in the European top leagues with 22 goals from six Bundesliga matches, their best start in the history of the league.
Meanwhile the BVB are also unbeaten in all competitions this season, winning six matches and drawing three times before the recent international break, however, they have scored 13 goals less than Bayern in the Bundesliga this season.
Key players
Bayern - Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz
Harry Kane has scored 18 goals this season for Bayern, with eleven of those coming in the Bundesliga alone. The England star has been in prolific form, scoring in six consecutive matches ahead of the derby.
His partnership with wingers Michael Olise and new recruit Luis Diaz has flourished, with the pair also contributing with 11 goals whilst providing ten assists.
Dortmund - Nico Schlotterbeck, Marcel Sabitzer, Daniel Svensson, Serhou Guirassy - Dortmund
Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck will be very important in BVB's bid to stop the on-form Harry Kane from continuing his scoring streak. The 25-year-old recently returned from a knee injury and was part of Germany's squad during the international break.
Midfielder's Daniel Svensson, Marcel Sabitzer and forward Serhou Guirassy have shown good form in recent weeks, solidifying Dortmund's in key areas of the field.
Coaches' comments
"Bayern are the favourites," said Niko Kovac to Borussia Dortmund's club website.
“We are the outsiders who want to hurt our opponents. Just defending won't work, because Bayern are simply too good.”
The Croatian further explained what he feels his team will need to achieve a positive result from the derby on Saturday.
“Getting off to a good start, being brave, staying compact and keeping the opposition well away from our goal in order to create chances.
"The most crucial factor is that BVB will not be able to get anything out of Saturday's game without team spirit."
Meanwhile Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany spoke to reporters at a pre-match conference on Friday ahead of the biggest Bundesliga derby.
"We've got the motivation for this Klassiker - first against second, both unbeaten," said Kompany.
"We're excited about this game. They've shown a lot of stability, have players who can always score. With Serhou Guirassy they've got a player who doesn't need many chances.
"And they've got lots of experience at centre-back and in midfield. It's various different qualities that make Dortmund a good Dortmund on the whole. But we're at home and are really up for this game. Hopefully it'll be a good game for the fans and a good result for us."
