Matt Kuchar and son claim record PNC win in emotional tribute to late father

What is traditionally a celebration of family and fun became deeply emotional as Matt fought back tears while reflecting on how much the win meant following the death of his father earlier this year.

In a fitting finale, Matt stepped aside to let Cameron tap in the final putt - a small gesture that capped an unforgettable and deeply meaningful week for the Kuchar family.

"I don't know if you believe in karma, if you believe in fate, whatever you believe in, there's something magical that does exist," Kuchar said.

"I'm a believer in God, that dad is up above looking down, and what happened on 18, I could hardly stand up and hit a shot.

"For me to hit it to a foot, makes me think there's something more out there. Just miss my pops."

The PNC Championship, which began in 1995 as the Father-Son Challenge, was originally created for major champions and their children. Over time, its field has broadened to welcome Players Championship winners as well as senior and LPGA major champions.

Kuchar, the 2012 Players Championship winner, said he keeps photographs to accompany the trophies from most of his nine PGA Tour victories - mementos that help capture the stories behind each triumph.

"Now to have this shot with the family, it's clearly missing one," he added. "But it's special, very special."

Further down the field, Lee Trevino provided one of the weekend’s standout moments, with the 86-year-old holing out from the fairway with a lob wedge for eagle on the 13th.

John Daly and his son, John Daly II - a senior at Arkansas and the reigning Southern Amateur champion - closed with an eagle at the last to post a 59, earning a share of second alongside Davis Love III and his son Dru, who carded a 58.

Nelly Korda and her father, along with Steve Stricker and his daughter, finished just one stroke further back.
