Austin Smotherman surges into Bank of Utah Championship lead with stunning 62
Austin Smotherman carded a nine-under-par 62 to take a one-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Bank of Utah Championship in Ivins on Friday.

Bauchou carded a bogey-free round to take his first 18-hole lead on the PGA Tour, finishing with birdies on the final two holes. He rolled in a 12-footer at the par-three 17th before reaching the par-five 18th in two and two-putting for another birdie.
He leads a group of nine players by one shot at eight under, including Canada's Sudarshan Yellamaraju, David Lipsky, Stephan Jaeger, Steven Fisk, England's Jordan Smith, Kevin Roy, Kevin Streelman, Nick Dunlap and Austin Smotherman.
Smith produced one of the day's highlights with an albatross on the ninth, holing out from 238 yards on the par-five for the fifth double eagle of the PGA Tour season.
Defending champion Michael Brennan is among a large group at seven under after opening with his lowest score in a PGA Tour event. Garrick Higgo, Rico Hoey, last year's runner-up, John VanDerLaan, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Nick Taylor are also on seven under.
Taylor finished with an eagle on the 18th after his approach took a fortunate bounce off the lava rock surrounding the fairway.
Scoring was low throughout the opening round on the Tom Weiskopf-designed layout, with Bauchou particularly impressive as he hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation.
Presidents Cup participant Jackson Koivun opened with a two-under 69, while local favourite Tony Finau is further down the leaderboard as he looks to improve his position in the FedExCup Fall standings.
The top 100 in the FedExCup Fall standings will retain their full PGA Tour cards for 2027, while the top 60 will earn access to signature events.
