Benjamin Sesko should be fit for Man Utd's season opener

The 23-year-old has not featured in any of United's friendly fixtures this summer after carrying a shin problem from last season. He aggravated the injury during the Premier League meeting with Liverpool in May and was subsequently omitted from the 22-player squad that travelled to Gothenburg to face Paris Saint-Germain.

Railston wrote on X: "Benjamin Sesko is still on track to be fit for the start of the season, so there’s no reason to panic. The striker has been stepping up his rehabilitation at Carrington."

Sesko's availability will be particularly important for Michael Carrick, who is expected to rely heavily on the club's first-choice striker. United could face between 50 and 60 matches across all competitions, making it crucial for their main attacking option to be physically prepared from the outset.

The Slovenia international enjoyed a respectable 2025-26 campaign, registering 11 league goals, a tally matched only by another United player. However, he spent considerable time among the substitutes, partly because he was not yet capable of consistently completing 90 minutes.

Sesko has reportedly added noticeable muscle during the off-season, suggesting he has responded to the physical demands of English football.

United's alternative, Joshua Zirkzee, is highly regarded in training but has struggled to replicate that form in competitive matches. His lack of pace and penalty-box threat could leave Sesko carrying significant responsibility.
