Kaizer Chiefs snap up for former Orlando Pirates defenders
Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of former Orlando Pirates right-back Thabiso Monyane and left-back Paseka Mako.
Sam joined Amakhosi before the 2023/24 campaign but failed to make a single appearance throughout the season, despite signing a three-year deal.
As speculation around his status grows, FARPost reported that Chiefs had decided to part ways with the former Orlando Pirates player after it became evident he was not in coach Nasreddine Nabi's plans.
However, Sam's agent Lance Davids moved quickly to shut down those claims, posting on X (formerly Twitter): "Fake news."
His denial casts doubt on what seemed like an inevitable exit, especially given Chiefs' ongoing squad overhaul.
The Soweto giants have already offloaded Edmilson Dove, Ranga Chivaviro, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, and Njabulo Blom - all of whom featured at various points last season.
But while Davids insists his client remains contracted to the club, the reality on the ground suggests otherwise. Chiefs have strengthened heavily in Sam's position, signing Paseka Mako and Nkanyiso Shinga to bolster the left-back role.
Thabiso Monyane, a versatile option, can also operate in that position, while Bradley Cross and youth prospect Adem McCarthy remain part of the setup.
Sam's omission from matchday squads last season, coupled with the increasing competition in his position, leaves little room for optimism.
