Currie Cup: Cheetahs hold off WP in Bloemfontein, Lions tame Pumas in Nelspruit
The Cheetahs saw off a gallant effort from Western Province in Bloemfontein, while the Lions overcame the Pumas in Nelspruit in Currie Cup action played on Saturday.
For the home side, it was their third win in four encounters in the competition as they scored four tries to the visitors' two to also secure a bonus-point.
It was the Sharks who took the lead after 15 minutes when Vusi Moyo succeeded with a penalty but the hosts hit back with a try by scrumhalf Caleb Abrahams that George Whitehead converted.
The visitors took a 10-7 lead into the halftime break when Ceano Everson went over for a five-pointer and Moyo split the uprights from the kicking tee.
Griquas went ahead in the contest 15 minutes after the interval when Derik Pretorius broke away from a ruck and crashed over the line for the try.
The Sharks however refused to lie down and regained the lead with 20 minutes remaining when Diego Apollis showed good pace to round the defence and score with Moyo again successful with the conversion.
The home side hit back immediately though and went in for their third try of the game as Dylan Maart scored with Whitehead adding the extras.
Gurshwin Wehr then scored Griquas' fourth try to seal bonus-point victory and give the Sharks more to think about in what is turning into a forgettable season.
