French club signs experienced Sharks' scrumhalf

Wright has been a long servant of KwaZulu-Natal rugby, playing all his junior rugby there before joining the senior Sharks side in 2014. While the Westville native helped the Sharks to their 2024 Challenge Cup title, he has been struggling for game time.

The Durban franchise is currently brimming with quality scrumhalves. Springboks Grant Williams and Jaden Hendrikse are at the forefront, while rising star Bradley Davids is vice-captain of their Currie Cup team.

As such, the 31-year-old is searching for pastures new. Wright has already had short stints at Montpellier and most recently Pro D2 side Oyonnax, but now has a permanent position with Narbonne until 2027.

"I was looking for a team with vision, and after speaking to [Narbonne sporting director] Charles Malet, it was clear that the project at Narbonne matched what I was looking for," Wright told the press.

"I know French rugby from my time at Montpellier and Oyonnax. At this stage of my career, I want a fresh challenge, and this is a place where rugby really means something."
