Germany's left-back battle intensifies as David Raum credits Nathaniel Brown rise

Raum admitted that Brown's performances have been hard to ignore, even as he continues his own push for fitness and form ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"He had an outstanding season, even though Eintracht Frankfurt struggled," Raum told Sky Germany, highlighting the 22-year-old's breakthrough into the international set-up.

Brown's rapid progress has seen him challenge for a starting place under Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, with Raum acknowledging the intensity of the battle for selection.

"He fought his way into our team. I've had some physical problems lately, but I'm getting fitter all the time," the RB Leipzig defender added.

Despite the personal competition, Raum stressed his commitment to the squad and the collective goal of success on the world stage.

"We're very well-staffed in that position. If I'm not playing the team can still rely on me. The coach therefore has a wealth of options," he said, underlining his team-first mentality.

Raum also hinted that Brown could be in line to start Germany's World Cup opener against Curacao on Sunday, reflecting the changing dynamics in the squad.

Germany have been drawn into Group E for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Curacao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador in the group stage, with selection decisions now under close watch as the tournament approaches.
