Hacjivah Dayimani returns to Stormers after Racing 92 exit

Dayimani, who spent the past two seasons with Racing 92 in the French Top 14, has secured an early release from his contract for personal reasons, allowing him to return home. The South African flanker was a key figure in the Stormers' inaugural URC title triumph in 2022 and will add to his 57 caps immediately under a short-term deal running until the end of the current campaign.

"Having Hacjivah back is fantastic," Dobson said. "We all know the qualities he brings on and off the field. With players like Ruan Ackermann, Salmaan Moerat, and Ruben van Heerden sidelined, his versatility gives us several options up front. I'm sure our fans will welcome him with open arms - he has a remarkable story, and we hope this next chapter is another one to remember."

The Stormers have endured a challenging few weeks after an impressive 10-match winning start to the season. Momentum was stalled by a heavy Champions Cup defeat to Harlequins and consecutive URC losses to the Sharks, where discipline and injuries played a key role. Dobson admitted the team had struggled to adapt to setbacks in the pack and backline.

"When we got to the local derbies, we got blown out the water," he said. "We gave away 19 penalties in Durban. Injuries across the squad - from Dan du Plessis, Ruhan Nel, Seabelo Senatla, Suleiman Hartzenberg to the forwards like Salman Moerat, Ruben van Heerden, and Ruan Ackermann - have tested our depth."

Dayimani's return is expected to relieve pressure on the back row. "BJ Dixon can move into lock, while Evan Roos, Paul de Villiers, and BJ have been overplayed," Dobson noted.

For his part, Dayimani is eager to make an immediate impact. "I've learned a lot in France and I'm excited to be back in Cape Town. Playing for this team means a lot to me, and I intend to contribute wherever I can and make more great memories on the field," he said.

The Stormers will next face the Lions at Ellis Park on 28 February, with Dayimani available to strengthen a pack that has been tested by injuries and recent form dips.
