'I would like to stay' - Andreas Christensen keen on Barcelona contract extension

Christensen's deal is set to expire at the end of June, and Barcelona have offered him the chance to stay at the club. However, any extension would require the Denmark international to accept a significant wage reduction as the club continue to manage their salary limits and create space for potential new signings.

Despite spending much of the past two seasons disrupted by injury, Barcelona still value the defender and see him as part of Hansi Flick's squad moving forward - provided financial terms can be agreed.

Speaking this week during international duty, Christensen made his position clear, stressing his desire to remain in Catalonia.

"Yes, this is all I can confirm (that I would like to stay at Barcelona). There is not much new. I don't have much to share, but I hope to be able to do it soon. Everyone knows what I want and where my head is, so I hope everything falls into place soon," he said.

The defender is currently with Denmark national football team for their training camp between international friendlies, as he continues to regain rhythm after a difficult spell with injuries. Denmark drew 0-0 against DR Congo on Wednesday.

Christensen admitted he is focused on building fitness and momentum over the summer, especially after a long spell on the sidelines.

"It's been a long five months, but I feel like I'm in a good moment right now. These international matches can help me feel better during the summer."
