Preview: Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City clash in Betway Premiership showdown

Kick-off is set for 15h00, and both teams are desperate for a victory to secure a top-eight finish.

Kaizer Chiefs have endured a torrid season, managing just one win in their last 10 matches. A 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on 17 May extended their winless run to eight games, leaving them ninth with 31 points, level with Chippa United and Marumo Gallants. Richards Bay (11th) and Magesi (12th) are hot on their heels, trailing by one and two points, respectively. 

Polokwane City, once top-three contenders, have also faltered, securing only two victories in their last 14 matches. A 2-0 defeat to Cape Town City on 17 May marked their third loss in five games, placing them seventh, just two points above Chiefs. Their hopes of MTN8 qualification are equally precarious.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has rallied the AmaKhosi faithful for the crucial clash. "The situation will only be resolved in the last game," Nabi said. "We're confident, playing at home, and we need our supporters. It's a tough game, but with the fans behind us, we can get the three points."

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe, speaking on X after their recent loss, remained defiant: "We're not done yet. The boys are ready to fight for every point in Johannesburg. This team has shown resilience before, and we'll do it again." 

For Chiefs, DR Congo winger Makabi Lilepo is the man in form, netting in each of his last three matches. His stunning solo goal against Sekhukhune, surging from his own half to curl a shot into the bottom corner, highlighted his growing influence since joining from Valenciennes in January. 

Polokwane's attack, however, has sputtered, with only 19 goals scored this season. Centre-back Lebohang Nkaki, their top scorer with four goals (three from penalties), remains their primary threat, though his defensive duties will be crucial against Chiefs' attack.
 
In their last five Premiership encounters, both teams have claimed two wins apiece, with one draw. Their most recent meeting in December ended in a 1-0 Polokwane victory, adding extra spice to this fixture.

Kaizer Chiefs' official X account posted this week, urging fans to pack FNB Stadium: "Amakhosi, let's make it loud on Saturday!  #MTN8OrBust."

Meanwhile, Polokwane City's X feed shared Mohafe's confidence: "One last push for the top eight. We're ready for the challenge!"

With both teams teetering on the edge of MTN8 qualification, expect a tense, action-packed encounter. Chiefs' home advantage and Lilepo's flair could tip the scales, but Polokwane's knack for upsets makes them dangerous. This is a must-watch for Premiership fans.
