Report: Marc Guehi pursuit heats up as Liverpool push for Crystal Palace star

The Premier League champions have already spent heavily, splashing out around 260 million pounds on six new signings: Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi.

Yet, they show no signs of slowing down, with funds from potential sales of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa set to fuel further moves.

The Reds have made a fresh push for Guehi, a long-term target, as they look to address defensive concerns, according to Football Insider. With Ibrahima Konate's contract nearing its end and interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain looming, Liverpool are keen to secure a reliable centre-back.

Guehi, also in the final year of his Palace contract, has emerged as a prime candidate. "Guehi has informed Palace he's not planning to sign an extension," a source told Football Insider, boosting Liverpool's hopes of landing the England international.

The 25-year-old, who captained Palace to FA Cup glory last season, is reportedly prioritising a move to Anfield over interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. However, Palace are holding firm, demanding a fee around 50 million pounds for their star defender.

A sticking point could be Guehi's desire for guaranteed playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said he is ready to offer assurances about Guehi's role in the squad, with talks expected to intensify in the coming weeks. "Slot is prepared to speak directly to Guehi if a deal progresses," the Football Insider report added.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's interest in Newcastle's Alexander Isak remains strong. Recent posts on X, suggest the Reds are prioritising a younger centre-back but haven't ruled out Guehi entirely, with a potential move more likely next year if this window's talks falter.

Meanwhile, the club's focus on squad depth and quality signals their intent to defend their Premier League crown with authority.

Palace, aware of Guehi's contract situation, face a tough decision: cash in now or risk losing him for free in 2026. Liverpool, with their ambitious transfer strategy, are determined to seize the opportunity and add the commanding defender to their ranks.
