Sverre Nypan snubs Arsenal to join Man City

The deal marks City's fifth signing of the summer transfer window, pushing their net spend ahead of rivals Liverpool.

Nypan joins an exciting crop of new arrivals at City, including Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marcus Bettinelli. The transfer, valued at approximately 12.5 million pounds, sets a record for Rosenborg, with Nypan signing a five-year contract that runs until 2030.

Sky Sports reported that City view Nypan as a future star, with plans to loan him out this summer to aid his development. If no loan is secured before pre-season, the teenager will train under Pep Guardiola with the first team until a move is finalized.

Nypan revealed that Guardiola's influence was pivotal in his decision to choose City over Arsenal, who had been confident of signing him after a failed attempt in January. "I am incredibly happy and proud to have joined Manchester City," Nypan said on the club's official website.

"The chance to be coached by Pep Guardiola, the best manager in the world, will only help me become a better player. There's already a special connection between Norway and Manchester City through Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb, and I'm proud to be the latest Norwegian to join."

City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, echoed Nypan's excitement, highlighting the club's long-term vision for the player. "Sverre is an exciting young talent we've monitored for some time," Viana said.

"At 18, he already has standout qualities, and we believe he'll be an important asset for Manchester City in the years ahead."

Recent updates from X confirm City's enthusiasm for Nypan, with the club's official account posting: "A new Norwegian star joins the City family! Welcome, Sverre Nypan!" Fans on the platform have expressed optimism, with one user noting, "Another gem for Pep to polish. This kid's going to be special."

Meanwhile, Arsenal's transfer focus has shifted, with pundit Paul Merson urging the Gunners to prioritize Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze. "If you asked me whether Arsenal should sign Eze or Noni Madueke, I'd have said Eze all day long," Merson said. "He's got the X-factor to break down low blocks, which Arsenal struggle against at the Emirates."

Arsenal's pursuit of Eze could intensify as they look to bolster their attacking options after missing out on Nypan.
