Al Ahly sack former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro after seven matches

Al Ahly have parted ways with former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro after only seven matches at the helm of the African giants.

The Spaniard was relieved of his duties following a 2-0 loss at home against Pyramids on Saturday, which saw Al Ahly slump to 13th position on the Egyptian Premier League table.

Riveiro joined the Egyptian champions in June ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stages without winning a match despite an impressive performance against Porto in a 4-4 thriller.

In total, he led the team in seven fixtures in all competitions, winning only once, drawing four times and losing twice.

According to a statement on the club's social media on Sunday, the two parties agreed to part ways via mutual consent.

The former Bucs coach claimed he would not coach another team in South Africa prior to his departure from the Soweto giants and only time will tell if he remains in Africa or explores opportunities elsewhere.
