Alexander Isak a doubt for decisive clash as Newcastle chase Champions League spot

The Magpies must secure victory to clinch a Champions League place for the second time in three seasons.

Isak, who has netted 27 goals this campaign, is nursing a groin injury and missed last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

While he has resumed running, manager Eddie Howe confirmed the Swedish forward is yet to train with the squad and remains "touch and go" for the season's final match.

"We'd love him to be fit and available for the game. He has to be fit to give his best, though, I think that's clear and we wouldn't risk him being not able to deliver what he needs to do," said Howe.

"He has to be free in his movement and everything because he's that kind of player, he's electric at his best. So let's see.

"Until he trains with us, we won't fully know how he's going to respond to the training and the demands that the game will place upon him.

"We'll only play him if he's fit to contribute, but at the moment he has an opportunity, potentially."

Isak has been instrumental for Newcastle, notably scoring in the Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool earlier this season. His clinical finishing and movement have made him a standout performer in an ambitious campaign for the Tyneside club.

Should Isak be ruled out, Howe has several options to lead the line. Callum Wilson offers experience and a physical presence, while England international Anthony Gordon could be pushed into a central role.

Youngster Will Osula is also available, though he remains largely untested at this level.
