Former Liverpool, PSG defender Mamadou Sakho announces retirement
Former Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and France centre-back Mamadou Sakho has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.

Liverpool were cruising after Szoboszlai's stunning long-range opener - the 100th goal of his career - and Jeremie Frimpong's follow-up strike. But just before half-time, Szoboszlai turned a comfortable night into a nervy one by attempting a backheel inside his own six-yard box, allowing Adam Phillips to score and give Barnsley hope.
Late goals from substitutes Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike eventually settled the tie and sent Liverpool through to a fourth-round home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, but Robertson admitted the error changed the mood inside the stadium.
"The frustrating thing is Dom makes an unbelievable 60-yard sprint to win the ball," Robertson said. "He's getting the applause from the Kop and maybe it went to his head. We can joke now, but it's unacceptable to lose a goal like that - and Dom knows it."
While praising Szoboszlai's consistency this season, Robertson stressed that lapses of concentration cannot be afforded, especially so close to goal. He also revealed the midfielder apologised to his team-mates at half-time, with Arne Slot confirming he would speak to the Hungarian about the incident.
The Scotland captain added that the goal frustrated goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and highlighted a recurring issue for Liverpool, even as their unbeaten run extended to 11 matches.
"We've let teams back into games far too many times this season," Robertson said. "At 2-0 we looked in control, so for that to happen isn't good. We limited their chances after that and got the goals we needed, but performances still have to improve."
Robertson believes Liverpool are becoming more secure defensively but insists the team must now find the right balance to turn progress into trophies.
