'Arne leaves with our gratitude' - Liverpool confirm coach Arne Slot has left the club

Arne Slot arrived at Anfield in June 2024 and made an immediate impact, guiding the Reds to the 20th league title in the club's history in his debut season. His first campaign also saw him named LMA Manager of the Year, with Liverpool reaching the Carabao Cup final and the last 16 of the Champions League.

In the following season, Slot continued to keep Liverpool competitive at the highest level, securing Champions League qualification for a second consecutive year and leading the team to the quarter-finals of the competition.

In a joint statement, Liverpool's ownership paid tribute to his contribution, describing the decision as difficult but necessary for the club's long-term direction.

They said: "That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and successful."

The statement highlighted his professionalism and leadership, adding: "From the moment we first encountered Arne, it was clear he embraces responsibility. This was evident when he took over as head coach, when he guided us to the Premier League title, and throughout the challenges he faced."

The owners also stressed that the decision was not a reflection of his ability, but part of a wider need for change.

They added: "We have come to the conclusion that change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward. This is not a decision taken lightly, nor is it a reflection of his talents."

Liverpool also acknowledged the difficult period the club went through during his tenure, praising his compassion and leadership off the pitch as well as his success on it.

The statement concluded with warm words for the departing coach: "Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield."

Liverpool now turn their attention to identifying a new head coach as they prepare for the next phase of their evolution.
