Bafana Bafana edge closer to World Cup qualification after routing Lesotho

The victory extends Hugo Broos' charges lead to seven points at the top of Group C with three more qualifiers still to play and only the top team gaining qualification.

The contest started with some fierce tackles put in by both teams and the referee having to go to his pocket to dish out yellow cards.

Bafana eventually settled and took the lead after 15 minutes when neat inter-play saw Aubrey Modiba in space and the left-back delivered a cross to the far-post where Mohau Nkota volleyed home.

Broos' team were far the better side with Lesotho looking to contain a rampant attack, and they did enough to make sure they went into the halftime break only 1-0 down.

Bafana resumed their attacking intent after the interval though and deservedly doubled their advantage just after the hour mark when Lyle Foster tapped in after goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane could only parry a powerful shot from Modiba.

It was soon 3-0 when Oswin Appollis showed good composure and finish after being played in by Foster.

The score remained the same until the final whistle with Bafana close to booking their tickets to the global event that will be co-hosted by USA, Mexico and Canada.

Broos and his charges must now prepare for a titanic clash against Nigeria that will also be played in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
