The Harambee Stars recorded a 2-1 friendly victory over Chad at Stade de Marrakech on Tuesday.
Emmanuel Osoro opened the scoring after 18 minutes and David Sakwa added a second goal on the stroke of half time.
Ali Mahamat Adam pulled a goal back for Les Sao on the hour mark but Kenya managed to hold on for victory.
It was McCarthy's fourth match in charge of the team, having kicked off his tenure with a 3-3 draw with Gambia and 2-1 defeat to Gabon in World Cup qualifers, before drawing 0-0 with Chad in a similar friendly on Tuesday.
Speaking after the game, a delighted McCarthy said on L4B: "Very happy for the boys, I think they've had a really good week in camp.
"We had a good time, got to know each other very well. The training sessions. I think the boys here this week as we got closer, the first game we played really well. Exceptionally well, we deserved to win.
"You know and you don't win, and you could see the expression on the face of the players when you've played the way that we did and you don't win the game.
"So, today, I just said to them just now, ‘We just have to kick on a little bit'. When you play the way that we did and you create the chances and you take them, then you'll see how easy it becomes.
"And I think today yeah the boys who came in, they did well they took their moments. They created so much more and it was just nice to see that you were able to start to see the way you want your team to play. The way you want players to move and understand each other.
“So, a lot of those positives came out in today's game. And I'm delighted for the team that they get a win that we deserve.”
