Kenya's Benson Omalla seals move to Visakha FC after Gor Mahia exit
Kenya striker Benson Omalla has completed a move to Cambodian Premier League outfit Visakha FC, signing a three-year deal following his departure from Kenyan heavyweights Gor Mahia.
The national team, under the guidance of head coach Benni McCarthy, reported for residential camp on Friday at the Kasarani Annex after a provisional 30-man squad was named, Panafricafootball.com reported.
The session marked the beginning of intensive preparations for the continental tournament.
Welcoming the team to camp were Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, along with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed.
McCarthy expressed his confidence in the squad and believes he has a strong team.
"In three weeks, we'll have a team no one wants to face. We're preparing thoroughly, and I believe this is a strong and competitive group. The hunger and commitment are clear," said McCarthy.
Team captain Aboud Omar echoed the coach's optimism, stating the players are fully motivated and ready to adapt.
"Our fans are behind us, and that gives us extra drive. The domestic season just ended, so fitness levels are high. Now it's about gelling as a unit and embracing the coach's style," Omar said.
In his address, CS Mvurya called for unity and nationwide support.
"I urge all Kenyans to stand with the Harambee Stars - not just as football fans, but as a united nation. Let our support be a symbol of patriotism and pride," he said.
"To our players: this is your moment. You carry the dreams of over 50 million Kenyans. Compete with passion and integrity, knowing the country is behind you."
Kenya will face stiff competition in Group A, which includes Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and Angola.
