Benni McCarthy forced to settle for Kenya stalemate
Benni McCarthy is still waiting for his first win with Kenya after guiding his side to a goalless draw with Chad on Saturday.
Wafula and an unidentified friend were lynched by members of the public shortly after allegedly snatching a mobile phone. Their bodies were taken to the Nairobi Funeral Home (formerly known as City Mortuary), Pulse Sports reported.
Wafula had once been a rising star in Kenyan football, celebrated for his acrobatic saves and commanding presence between the posts. His talent shone particularly in Nairobi's grassroots football scene, where he earned admiration and respect.
New Mathare FC, which competes in the Football Kenya Federation National Division Two Eastern Zone, expressed their sorrow in a statement:
"We are saddened by the passing of our former goalkeeper Eric Wafula. Shine on your way, Jagoal. Rest in peace," wrote the club.
According to reports, Wafula had previously been rescued from a similar mob justice incident in Kariobangi, where plainclothes officers intervened following another phone theft allegation.
Despite his early promise, Wafula's football journey faced setbacks that led to a tragic end.
