Betway Premiership: TS Galaxy bounce back with win over Marumo Gallants

The result lifts the Rockets to fifth place on the table, three points shy of the CAF continental spots, while extending their unbeaten streak to four matches.

The first half was cagey, with both sides adjusting after losing key players during the January transfer window. Galaxy were without Puso Dithejane, Khulumani Ndamane, and Qobolwakhe Sibande, while Gallants had lost Daniel Msendami and Mpho Chabatsane to Orlando Pirates.

Despite this, both teams created early opportunities. Msindisi Ndlovu's shot for Gallants narrowly missed the target, while Mpho Mvelase wasted a chance for Galaxy, sending a low cross wide. Junior Zindonga also failed to convert a counter-attack just before halftime, leaving the first 45 minutes goalless.

Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic responded at the break with a triple substitution, introducing Mory Keita, Victor Letsoalo, and Mlungisi Mbunjana. The changes sparked life into the home side, with both Mvelase and Letsoalo striking the woodwork early in the second half. Seven minutes after coming on, Mbunjana played a key role, threading a pass to Zindonga, who was fouled in the area by Kagiso Mlambo. Keita calmly converted the resulting penalty to give Galaxy the lead on 57 minutes.

The Rockets doubled their advantage on 67 minutes when Zindonga picked out Letsoalo with a low cross, and the striker fired past Mlambo for his first goal of the season. Zindonga nearly added a third late on, but the Gallants goalkeeper tipped his curling effort over the bar.

Gallants showed flashes of intent in the closing stages, with Sibusiso Ncube curling a free-kick that forced a fine save from Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape. However, Galaxy held firm, keeping a clean sheet and securing a morale-boosting win to start the year.

The result marks a positive turnaround for TS Galaxy, who are now looking to build on this performance as they aim to challenge for a top-eight finish. Marumo Gallants, meanwhile, remain winless in four league outings and will seek to arrest their slump in upcoming fixtures.
