Cristiano Ronaldo's heroics fire Portugal to UEFA Nations League final

The victory ended Portugal's 25-year drought against Germany, who had won all five previous encounters since 2000.

A storm in Munich delayed kick-off by 10 minutes, but both teams came out firing. Germany's Leon Goretzka tested Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa early with a low shot, while Ronaldo's sharp effort was saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Costa proved vital in the first half, making stunning stops to deny Goretzka and debutant Nick Woltemade, keeping the score level at the break.

Germany struck first in the 48th minute when Joshua Kimmich's pinpoint cross found Florian Wirtz, who headed home clinically. Portugal, struggling on the road with no wins in their last three away games, faced an uphill battle.

However, manager Roberto Martínez turned the tide with inspired substitutions. Francisco Conceicao, introduced just before the hour, sparked the comeback in the 63rd minute, weaving past Robin Gosens and curling a sensational shot into the top corner. "I'm very proud, especially because I helped the team get to the final," Conceicao said after the match.

Five minutes later, Nuno Mendes surged down the left and delivered a perfect ball for Ronaldo to tap in the winner. "It's a special moment for us," Ronaldo said, reflecting on his record-extending goal.

The Allianz Arena crowd, stunned by Portugal's quickfire double, watched Germany push for an equaliser, but Karim Adeyemi's long-range effort struck the post, and Portugal's defence stood firm.

Germany's Joshua Kimmich had praised Ronaldo's "insane" goal-scoring record, calling him a "very special player".

Portugal now await the winner of Spain vs. France in the final on June 8, aiming to become the first nation to lift the Nations League trophy twice.
