Simo Dladla bids farewell to Durban City after contract talks break down
Durban City FC have confirmed the departure of head coach Simo Dladla after negotiations for a contract extension collapsed.
The club were relegated from the South African top-flight in the 2022/23 season when still operating as Maritzburg United.
In their first season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they ended in fourth place behind Magesi.
But in their second campaign, the former Uthongathi boss led a rebranded City to the title - ahead of Orbit College and Casric Stars.
Dladla has never coached in the Premiership and Kadodia explained that the board will make its decision about who will take the club forward in due course.
The chairman told the Sowetan: "Simo's only unfortunate situation for me, not the board, is that this will be his maiden Premiership appointment as a coach.
"That is what my board kind of fears, the lack of experience; a risky situation or not? But that it will be a collective decision and not my decision alone.
"Probably we will decide in the next two or three days because there are things that we are already in consultation with as far as what we think that we need from the coach to manage his business in the PSL and hopefully it will turn positive.
"And if it doesn't turn out positive, we have to look at the option of what's available, but not that I got somebody else that I'm pitching against Simo which would be unfair.
"If the board feels that we are not going for Simo, I have to go to the market and look at somebody who can fit the criteria of the board."
Dladla joined City in 2023 as assistant to Zipho Dlangalala before taking the head coach post in December 2023.
