Orlando Pirates appoint Abdeslam Ouaddou as new head coach

The Soweto giants have opted to appoint the 46-year-old to replace Jose Riveiro following the Spaniard's decision to join Al Ahly after three trophy-laden seasons.

According to the club website, the Moroccan coach is expected to land in South Africa towards the end of the current week, and he will be assisted by Mandla Ncikazi and Rayaan Jacobs, Helmi Gueldich and Tyron Damons.

"Born in Alnif, Morocco, the 46-year-old brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a tactician," read the club statement.

"A former Moroccan international, Ouaddou earned 68 caps for The Atlas Lions and enjoyed a distinguished playing career across several top European leagues. His deep understanding of the game, coupled with a strong leadership profile, positions him well to lead the Buccaneers into a new era."

Ouaddou successfully helped guide Marumo Gallants away from the relegation/playoff last season after taking over the helms from Dan Malesela, losing only two of his ten matches in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

AmaBhakaniya are set to begin pre-season preparations on 27 June ahead of their upcoming training camp in Marbella, Spain between 8-20 July.

The Soweto giants are scheduled to face Bolton Wanderers (England), Pafos FC (Cyprus), Las Palmas (Spain), and Granada (Spain) in friendlies during their time in Europe.
